FTC CHAIRMAN MAJORAS' STATEMENT ON OUTGOING COMMISSIONER THOMPSON

FTC Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras issued the following statement on FTC Commissioner Mozelle W. Thompson:

"During his six-and-a-half year term at the Federal Trade Commission, Mozelle Thompson has worked to benefit consumers across the United States and around the world. From the beginning of his tenure, he recognized the importance of protecting consumers on a global level. His work with international organizations, including the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the International Consumer Protection Enforcement Network, helped to strengthen privacy laws and enforcement against cross-border fraud. With his passion, patience and diplomacy, he contributed to meaningful achievements in international cooperation.

I am grateful for the contributions Commissioner Thompson has made to the FTC, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

FTC FINALIZES CONSENT AGREEMENT INVOLVING DIETARY SUPPLEMENT CLAIMS

FTC has approved a final consent order involving Nutramax Laboratories, Inc. The consent order settles FTC charges that it violated federal law by making unsubstantiated claims that its product, "Senior Moment," could prevent memory loss and restore memory function in adults. Under the now-finalized consent agreement, Nutramax Laboratories, Inc. agreed to have competent and reliable scientific evidence for these and similar claims in the future.
